![]() Mohair is a soft wool born from the hair of Angora goats. Cotton and rayon smell like wood, while others tend to smell like rope. ![]() Cotton, linen, linen, jute and rayon are all similar. Synthetic yarns are the easiest to distinguish, as most types have a particularly unpleasant odor. Plant-based yarns smell like burning firewood, while animal-based yarns smell like burning hair. Real mohair burns to ash with a hair-growth odor, while fake mohair becomes black, sticky and hard, and has a bad odor. The easiest way to distinguish between real and fake mohair is to fire a thread and observe that the fire remains. ![]() ![]() This feature also means that mohair does not feel itchy on the skin like most wool types (except for merino wool and some others), making it a better choice for people with sensitive skin. Unlike wool, which feels “tingling”, mohair has a very smooth feel. ![]()
